Job Description

If you have read my job descriptions before, welcome back. If you are new, welcome to the party....you will notice that I like to add humor to my job descriptions...so you will see (hopefully) some chuckles as you read this.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tom Welke. I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions, Inc. I have been recruiting tech talent for a long long time (21 years in January) and been in the tech sector since the 1990s. Due to this, I am going to be far more focused on 'fit' than anything else...a fit for you and a fit for the client. Many in recruiting forget that this process is a 2-way street...their has to be a fit for you, the candidate, as well as for the client.

I have known this client for a very long time. Their Director of App Dev is actually a very close, personal friend of mine. So, I know these guys well. For this client, just like just about every other one I work with, a 'social fit' is almost as important as the 'technical fit'. So, you might ask....what are some of those things that indicate a 'Social Fit'? Well, I am glad you asked. Here are some characteristics:

  • You will be working on a new team with this firm. Their are other parts of the firm that handle Mobile Apps, ERP (PeopleSoft), HR apps and so on. This new team is designed to work on 'new ideas' and things that the firm hasn't undertaken before. So, if you are the kind of person that has been that tinkerer, that person that can take that 'can't be done' into 'wait a minute...it could be done by doing x y or z', then you are spot on with regard to what we are looking for.
  • This is not an overly dramatic environment full of Instagram Influencers...so, due to that, we are seeking that individual who gets their work done and doesn't seek a 'participation award' every time they show up for work (I am abundantly sure that their are some reading this that are shaking their heads up and down - perhaps with a chuckle - in terms of the kinds of people who believe the world revolves around them). This is not an environment where the world revolves around you or your colleagues.

Here is the job description:

This role is a Permanent Role (I can only work with US Citizens or Green Card Holders...so, I cannot work with H1B, EAD, OPT or Student Visa holders for this role)

This role is being done in a hybrid manner with 3 days being onsite (311 West Monroe) and 2 days remote. We are only looking for candidates that are already in the Chicago area for this role. I can understand that people can - sometimes - relocate to an area...but this client is only looking to work with candidates that are already in Chicago.

You will be responsible for the design, development and support of Microsoft-centric tools. This includes that world of .net, but also that nifty world of the Microsoft Power Platform, M365, and Azure. You will be responsible for the definition, architecture, development, maintenance, and technical support of what this client calls 'practice centric' solutions (these guys are a global law firm). Some people reading this are probably wondering 'hmm...are these guys Agile?'. The answer to that is 'yep, as much as they can be'. I don't think anyone is 100% agile, by the way...just ask 'so, when was your last 15 minute scrum meeting?'. You will probably get a blank look. You will also play a key role in business requirements gathering and documentation efforts and collaborate with application architects and colleagues to create and review optimal architectural and technical designs adhering to best practices in scalability, reliability, and performance.

Here are the things we are looking for in your background (I won't exhaust you with a zillion bullet points...instead, I will focus on the 'Gotta Haves'):

  • Certification(s) in Microsoft technologies (Power Platform, M365, Azure, .NET, etc.) is a nice to have.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Microsoft’s Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Pages, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents), .NET development, SharePoint Online (or other document management solutions such as iManage), and Teams.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server or other relational database management systems, including work on database architectures and databases that power enterprise solutions.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and best practices including CI/CD pipelines, containers, cloud, automation, security, configuration management, CI/CD; Azure DevOps experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a strong foundational knowledge of the Office 365 platform including the Microsoft Graph, Azure AD, and the Azure ecosystem
  • Experience or knowledge of version-control systems, e.g., GitHub / Azure DevOps
