Roads Specialist:
As the Roads Specialist you will provide technical expertise in the areas of road construction, improvement and maintenance. Technical forestry tasks completed by this position contribute toward unit goals, goals which also contribute to the mission of the Oregon Department of Forestry as assigned by the Forest Road Supervisor. This work will be accomplished by performing skilled and safe work while taking field measurements, completing road layout, road design, and preparing contract documents.
Here is what you need to Qualify:
A Bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering or equivalent
OR
Three years of experience in Forest Road Management, Forest Management, or a closely related natural resource field.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:
  • Proven experience as an excellent communicator who is honest, fair and inclusive among employees, partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience reviewing road/access plans from cost/benefit analysis for short and long term needs.
  • Ability to collect field data on slopes, grades, soil stability, rock location and quality as well as stream crossings, and drainage.
  • Sound knowledge of road construction methods and construction equipment.
  • Ability to perform field, photo and LiDAR data reconnaissance.
  • Ability to recognize and correct forest road related problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.
  • Ability to maintain proper working relationships with contractors.
