The Mortgage Loan Assistant primary duties is to support the Mortgage Loan Officers in the process and originating of 1st mortgage loan applications. Develops relationships with members, engage as a member advocate, actively listen, and identify member needs and provide feedback. Responds to member questions via inbound/outboard calls and schedule mortgage appointments with a mortgage loan officer. Serves as an ambassador of USSFCU by espousing our Better Together philosophy to fulfil our purpose of helping our members achieve financial success.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years previous FNMA/FHLMC processing experience. (Completion of registration with the NMLS (National Mortgage Registry) including satisfactory result from a Federal-Level background check is required.) Knowledgeable in lending regulations to ensure compliance with Regulation Z, Regulation B, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, RESPA, CFPB compliance, KBYO, ATR, QM, HPML, HOEPA.
Skills: Excellent phone and member service skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work in a fast pace work environment. Good organizational and time management skills. Working knowledge of computer systems. Strong multitasking skills and attention to detail. Able to adapt and embrace change. Maintain a positive attitude. Good interpersonal skills. Manage challenging situations. Ability to deliver a difficult message. Ability to take ownership. Maintain a professional influence in all situations, including challenging or flexibility and adaptability to the continuously changing staffing needs of the Real Estate. Ability to review and understand title reports, act as escrow agent in obtaining payoff statement, lien release, address and direct vesting issues as required.
Communication: Possesses excellent conversational, active listening and interpersonal skills needed to build member relationships. Possesses excellent written communication skills. Deals effectively with members and all levels of staff.
Location: This position can be located at Headquarters or the Contact Center.
Supervisory: None Required.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow up on all conditions timely and accurately.
- Obtain copy of current homeowners insurance and flood insurance (if applicable) and make sure mortgage clause is in favor of credit union.
- Assist with post closed loan inquiries.
- Assist the Mortgage Loan Officers with prepping the loan application to submit for processing.
- Act as a liaison between members and various departments and 3rd party vendors.
- Disburse checks, and pay fees due to title companies, attorneys, and appraisers when necessary.
- Handles a variety of incoming telephone calls within the 1st Mortgage department from internal and external customers.
- Ensure each loan booked is entered into the mortgage loan servicing portal and email is sent to members with payment instructions.
- Assist members with the 1st Mortgage application process.
- Maintain Mortgage Lending Department files.
- Order title work, VOEs, bank statements and any other required documentation for the mortgage process per the Mortgage Loan Officer.
- Follow up with mortgage loan inquiries and referrals.
- Assist the Mortgage Loan Officers with uploading documentation into the 3rd party lending system.
