A Brief Overview
Under the supervision of the Mobile Operations and the day-to-day work direction of the mobile or center charge nurse, the Driver Mobile Assistant operates self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setting up at remote blood collection (mobile) sites and returning to Blood Center.
What you will do

  • Responsible for deliveries to and from blood center in order to facilitate efficient operation of blood center and mobile unit. Transport blood to component laboratory; ensure blood transport boxes/coolers are properly used and temperature quality control maintained.
  • May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
  • Escort donors and assist with donors who have reactions.
  • Operate self-contained mobile blood collection unit, set up at remote blood collection (mobile) sites and return to Blood Center (Class B driver’s license required).
  • Strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and employees. Act as a responsible information steward and treats information as sensitive and confidential in accordance with federal and state laws and with professional ethics, accreditation standards and legal requirements. Do not disclose protected health information inappropriately.
  • Keep confidential records pertaining to donor medical history card and unit numbering.
  • At mobile locations, act as Donor Room Assistant under direction of on-site supervisor/charge nurse, including, but not limited to:
    • Keep confidential records pertaining to donor medical history card and unit numbering.
    • Label blood bags.
    • Heat seal donor unit tubing into segments.
    • Escort donors and assist with donors who have reactions.

  • Responsible to keep mobile units clean, operational, gassed and containing adequate supplies and equipment. Vehicle and equipment must be maintained so as to be ready for emergency dispatch. Inventory and order supplies contained on mobile units.
  • Train new drivers in all aspects of the job including driving and DRA responsibilities. Recognize personal responsibility to comply with safe and healthful work practices. Comply with government regulations and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support good health and safety practices. Respect and maintain the confidentiality of donors, patients, and staff records at all times and uses complete discretion when discussing these matters. Validate trip sheets to assure directions to mobile sites are clear and accurate.
  • Load, transport, assemble, and dismantle mobile equipment, medical supply boxes and computers for mobiles located at businesses or other community or civic locations within surrounding communities. Rearrange existing furniture at mobile sites when necessary.
  • Prepare and distribute supplies and equipment for mobile units/locations and/or fixed site locations according to the requirements of the Collections department.
  • Comply with governmental regulations and Stanford Health Care and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support good health and safety practices.
  • Completes a variety of other support activities related to activities in blood collection areas as directed by supervisory/charge nurse staff.
  • Ensure all equipment on mobile units (donor beds, equipment boxes) is operational at all times. Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate department. Coordinate repairs of mobile vehicles when necessary. Operate vehicles within limits of the law at all times (fines resulting from infractions will be at own expense.)


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required


Experience Qualifications

  • 1+ year to 2 years Experience driving 50 foot vehicle Preferred
  • 1+ year to 2 years Class B driving experience with valid license and verifiable good driving record Required


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to pass color-blind and drug/alcohol screening tests.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50-75 pounds.
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated tact and courtesy required.

  • CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State required Upon Hire

Salary Range: Generally starting at $30.78 - $34.523 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
