The Manager of Child Life/Creative Arts Therapy is responsible for all activities and operations for the child life and creative arts therapies ensuring a safe and nurturing environment where children and adolescents can enrich coping skills, address psychosocial needs, and increase understanding of issues related to medical experiences. This includes HR and budgetary responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Child Life/Creative Arts Therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age. Culture, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center¿s Managerial Competencies.
  • Responsible for hiring, disciplining, and performance appraisals of all child life staff, and ensures job specific competencies and annual mandatory education are completed.
  • Develops and assesses Child Life/Creative Arts programming
  • Oversees budget of department including monthly responsibility summaries and annual budgets.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Child Life/Creative Arts Therapy department.
  • Coordinates with Foundation on grants, donations and events
  • Supports and mentors the staff in providing appropriate support to the clinical care team as well as to patients and family members
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Master's degree in creative arts therapy, child life, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years utilizing Child Life services with children/adolescent in a medical setting.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Certified Child Life Specialist.
