POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to collaborate with Fixed Equipment, Inspection, Corrosion, and other refining personnel to ensure the mechanical integrity and reliability of our refinery assets. Responsibilities include assessing inspection findings and operational issues, proactively identifying areas of concern, and offering corrective options before a problem impacts production.
  • This position will be based in Marathon Petroleum’s Catlettsburg Refinery in Catlettsburg, KY.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review and approve contractor and site weld procedures for pipe and vessel construction and repair activities.
  • Possess a strong understanding of refinery specific damage mechanisms and ensure consideration is incorporated into our asset management plans.
  • Utilize root cause analysis methodologies to understand issues or risks to operations and develop mitigations.
  • Assist Engineering, Inspection, and Construction groups with design decisions such as material selection, overlay and coating selection, weld procedure development, and development of construction inspection plans.
  • Network with Corporate reliability groups including the Corrosion & Materials Advisory Group (CMAG) and the Risk-based Inspection Work Group (RBIWG).
  • Act as the site subject matter expert regarding the selection and application of materials for refinery assets including materials of construction, coatings, refractory systems, etc.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in corrosion studies or material reviews to identify potential damage mechanisms and assist in solving material degradation problems.
  • Support assigned Area Teams by being an active team member, providing expertise to support team goals, and continually looking for opportunities to prevent incidents, reduce operating costs, improve reliability, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
  • Support Turnaround and Routine Maintenance in the development of repair plans for existing equipment.
  • Support the Mechanical Integrity program and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Assist in development of refinery procedures to be aligned with industry and corporate standards.
  • Manage asset information and data to ensure equipment history and records are accurate and complete.
  • Analyze equipment history and failure data to support data driven decisions, improve availability, and reduce operating costs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Three years post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, enter towers, examine remote equipment, and work within confined spaces.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Metallurgical/Materials experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Software experience; GE Meridium (APM) V4 experience, SAP.
  • Experience with conducting risk assessments, performing failure analysis, and supporting inspection or corrosion engineering activities.
  • Solid understanding of refining industry practices and damage mechanisms.
  • Six plus years post-graduate engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.
