- Associate’s Degree or completion of a Medical Office Professional program or equivalent preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Two to three years’ experience in a medical practice or clinical setting or educational equivalent required. (Experience must be 24 out of the past 36 months in a medical practice or clinical setting).
- Ability to sort and file materials by alphabetic and numeric systems.
- Familiarity with all applicable medical laws and regulations regarding dissemination of patient information.
- Working knowledge of office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, telephones and computers.
- Knowledge of physician office procedures, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines, Electronic Health Records (EHR) Understanding of insurance guidelines and requirements for referrals and authorizations.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to record messages and patient data accurately, including use of appropriate grammar and spelling.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
- Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively and to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Obtains Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR–OE) by the American Association of Medical Assistants within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- No previous experience required.
- Knowledge of basic principles of cleaning.
- Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and understand instructions.
- Basic computer skills.
