Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations Physicians Organizations provides management and operational oversight of the medical staff office according to policies, procedures, philosophy and objective of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and with other hospital services to create a system of quality health care.

Position Specific Performance Criteria/Essential Job Functions/Competencies

  • Organizes and directs a comprehensive credentialing program for physicians, allied health professionals and other health professionals/categories specified in the Medical Staff Bylaws. Works with medical staff leadership and hospital clinical staff for the approval and ongoing review of these practitioners.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the Intellicred practitioner database.
  • Provides support services to medical staff elected officers, Department and Section Chiefs and Medical Directors, in fulfilling the responsibilities of their office. This includes maintaining the Medical Staff Bank account, preparing and distributing communications, reports, surveys, policies and procedures, coordinating medical staff meetings which includes preparing and distributing the monthly calendar, notifying members, securing location and refreshments.
  • Prepare agendas, related material and Power point presentations for medical staff meetings (Agenda meetings, Credentials Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Full Medical Staff meetings). Transcribes and maintains minutes of such meetings. Carries out expeditious follow through on action items and policy changes.
  • Coordinates medical staff activities by acting as a liaison between the medical staff and administration.
  • Assists the Vice President of Operations Physicians Organizations in preparation of the department budget.
  • Acts as a resource for current accreditation standards and legal requirements.
  • Provides medical staff information and assists in preparing reports for other hospital departments (i.e. clinical service department, Finance, Quality and Risk, Marketing and Public Relations, Community Health and Wellness).
  • Oversees the daily operation of the Medical Staff Office and directs the work of the Medical Staff Office department personnel. Directly responsible for all personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, orientation, vacation schedules, maintaining payroll records and time reports.
  • Maintains current copy of Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, and Policies & Procedures.
  • Responsible for the personnel actions of the Medical Education Coordinator including performance appraisal, vacation schedule, maintaining payroll records and time reports.
  • Organizes and directs a comprehensive re-credentialing program for physicians, allied health professionals and other health professionals/categories specified in the Medical Staff Bylaws. Works with medical staff leadership and hospital clinical staff for the approval and ongoing review of these practitioners.

Requirements:
5+ years of experience

Previous experience in hospital medical staff credentialing required

Bachelors Degree
