- Assist with the inventory and procurement of reagents, supplies, and consumables
- Participate in verifications, validations, and implementation of new diagnostic assays
- Utilize STARLIMS and Qualtrax compliance software for specimen submission, results entry, and document management
- Perform clinical laboratory testing per standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the detection of analytes indicating the presence of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis
- Provide laboratory testing consultation to physicians, epidemiologists, nurses & other laboratorians
- Perform instrument QC, maintenance, and technical troubleshooting
- Perform and document quality assurance and quality control activities to Federal, State and SLPH regulations

The NCSLPH provides more than 125 clinical laboratory tests and more than 65 environmental laboratory tests to the public and private medical health care system in North Carolina and performs over 6 million tests annually on human, animal, food, water, and agricultural samples. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
- Knowledge of the components of a Quality Assurance program and demonstrated skill in monitoring quality controls daily
- Ability to troubleshoot test procedures and interpret laboratory results
- Experience with clinical laboratory procedures and processes, handling potentially infectious materials, and the safety aspects associated with clinical laboratory testing
- Demonstrated skills in conducting work with a high degree of accuracy, paying attention to detail, and completing all necessary documentation
- Must meet Federal CLIA ’88 personnel requirements for testing personnel in a high complexity laboratory. Candidates must attach a copy of their transcript(s) and/or certification(s) to qualify for consideration
- Experience with general laboratory equipment and procedures
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification
- Knowledge and experience with automated testing platforms (e.g., Panther, Alinity, ASI Evolution)
- Previous work in the identification of Bacterial STDs
- An occupational medical assessment may be required to determine your ability to safely work with biological, chemical, or radiological hazards. This position may also require periodic medical screenings to confirm safety practices are effectively preventing occupational injury or illness. All costs associated with obtaining occupational health services are covered by NCSLPH.
- Works frequently with infectious disease agents that require the use of personal protective equipment.
- Uses laboratory equipment that requires ability to manipulate items with fingers, ability to grasp, and ability to feel/perceive the attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture.
- Requires the ability to distinguish colors and close visual acuity to perform data analysis and visual inspection of specimens using standard laboratory equipment.
Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory technology, chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area;
