Job Description
Coperion is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer and the position can be located in either Pitman, NJ or Wytheville, Va. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for….
Supporting of all equipment and machine reconditioning or modification projects, including sales support activities, project kick-off, detailed engineering activities, assembly operations, and final inspection and check-out. Examples include extruder drivetrain upgrades or speed changes, machine modernization or reconfiguration, side feeder additions, or pelletizer additions.

What you’ll do:
Sales Support Activities
  • Provide technical support for and coordinate with the Customer Service sales staff to identify opportunities for machine refurbishing or modification projects.
Quotation Support
  • Assist the Customer Service sales staff with quotation follow-up.
  • Assist with evaluating equipment inspections (in house or on site) as needed in order to determine the scope of refurbishing/modification needed. Interface with the customer service project manager and others as needed to help define the project.
  • Calculate cost estimates and associated technical descriptions. Obtain approval for larger quotations in association with company guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing professional quotations for an associated scope.
  • Interface with the customer service project manager and assembly to estimate the cost and time frame associated with the scope to be quoted.
Project Management Support
  • Coordinate with others in customer service, engineering, and assembly to ensure an on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Assist in the creation of Technical Instruction manuals for the project.
  • Communicate with the customer service project and/or sales staff any issues.
  • Perform shop inspections with suppliers or at our Coperion assembly facility.
  • Establish project drawings as required by the scope of supply of the project (CAD skills are important) or in some cases work with the other Coperion designers for drawing creation.
  • Establish any new parts required and create Bills of Materials as needed for the project. Communicate with suppliers and/or our in-house manufacturing.
  • Attend project kick-off meetings and participate in the technical planning of the project
Special Projects
  • Process data entry requests for new parts numbers, database updates, Bills of Materials, part technical descriptions and specifications, etc. Look-up parts in SAP and coordinate the technical data in both systems. Establish technical specifications for parts and associated Bills of Materials.
  • Identify opportunities where a standardized “kit” would facilitate simple and effective quotation of upgrade or modernization projects. Define the content and cost of the associated kit together with the sales and technical service staff. Make stocking recommendations to the business unit manager. Communicate the existence and applicability of the kit to the existing sales staff.
  • Make recommendations to the customer service personnel and/or customers for parts required to correct existing or anticipated equipment problems, either damage or wear related. This requires extensive technical aptitude, familiarity with engineering principles and design guidelines, and the ability to understand complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to customer service staff and other company personnel.
  • Establish and maintain periodic contact with suppliers (in association with the purchasing department) to obtain technical quotations and develop technical specifications.
  • Assist other Department Personnel with specific expertise as required. Perform other related tasks as delegated by proper authority.
Basic Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications, familiarity with ERP software such as QAD, SAP, and CRM applications as required.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering reports, drawings, office procedures, and instruction manuals is required. The ability to create drawings using CAD software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical process industry (CPI) mechanical plant equipment and systems or related industry experience. Knowledge of Extrusion Technology or related capital equipment as well as Maintenance a plus.
  • 3+ years of related experience, preferably in the equipment/process systems business and /or customer service sales.
  • Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Electrical engineering, or equivalent college degree.
  • The ability to write clear, concise routine correspondence as well as comprehensive documents.
Travel:
  • 25-30%
