The Materials Planning and External Manufacturing Manager is responsible for near, mid, and long-term planning activities of raw and packaging materials used for Clorox’s production across internal and unbundled external manufacturing. This hybrid role is additionally responsible for the management and operational performance of the External Manufacturers within network and for the collaboration with and influencing of internal, cross-functional partners in ways that build value across the supply chain.

In this role, you will:

Material Management & Planning

  • Generate materials forecasts for near, mid, and long-term periods, aligning them with the finished goods forecast.

  • Participate in S&OP and S&OE meetings, providing materials availability for production planning, and proactively address recurring material constraints.
  • Define and update MRP Parameters in the system for all materials, including lead-times, minimum/maximum inventory levels, and rounding values.
  • Additionally, identify and communicate long-term materials supply requirements, such as supplier line capacity and mold capacity, engaging Procurement as necessary.

External Manufacturing & Supplier Engagement

  • Share rolling volume forecasts with suppliers and External Manufacturers (EMs) to confirm production availability.
  • Establish Site Level Execution Agreements (SLEA) with key suppliers and EMs to define supply variables and performance expectations.
  • Regularly meet with key suppliers and EMs to review forecasts, evaluate performance, and foster strong relationships for mutual success.

Plant & External Manufacturing Engagement

  • Support site-level issue resolution, escalate to GSS and GQA as needed
  • Primary contact for EMs to resolve business related questions, co-investment support, and long-range planning.
  • Maintain open communication with plant or EM personnel (e.g., Business Support Mgr., Material Coordinator, Prod Planner) on material availability and supplier performance. Seek plant and EM input to set master data parameters.
  • For materials shared across multiple plants, coordinate with peer sites all aspects of supply (e.g., volume forecast, allocation, supplier performance tracking, etc.)

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and lead implementation of materials planning and production improvement opportunities and chronic issues/losses, including potential opportunities in collaboration with external partners
  • Ensure MM&P processes abidance across the network (i.e., Prod Scheduling, GSS, QA, etc.), and conduct training, as needed
  • Monitor performance metrics for materials planning related metrics across sites (e.g., usage vs. BOM/contract, OEE and customer service level impact from lack of materials availability) as well as EM supplier metrics (e.g., including production schedule adherence, cost, and savings opportunities delivery)
  • Ensure appropriate MM&P resourcing across raw, pack and WIP

What we look for:

  • Ability to collaborate and influence others ranging from subordinates to peers to senior executives to suppliers to accomplish team objectives
  • Experience in supplier management, communication and maintaining supplier relationships
  • Knowledge of and experience with forecasting and planning tools (e.g., Excel, SAP, Kinaxis - Rapid Response, etc.)
