Job Description

Duties

  • Follows all applicable warehouse safety regulations and procedures. Performs random safety/cubicle integrity spot checks and reports findings. All other duties assigned as a Materials Handler.
  • Operates an electric pallet truck to move, stack, unstack, load, and unload a variety of materials and equipment.
  • Moves office furniture, equipment, chairs, boxes, etc. to different area, or rearranges same within warehouse an area using fork lift, pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies and physical lifting/handling methods.
  • Perform a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, delivering, and shipping a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment and commodities in support of the operating location.
  • Assembles items into groups based on information shown on the receiving vouchers and segregates materials according to such factors as condition, type of transaction, or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines.
  • Holds material for inspection according to established procedures.
  • Routes items not requiring inspection to proper storage location or the designated organization.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying.
Quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying must be demonstrated through your ability to do the work of a Materials Handler receiving general instruction from supervision: Knowledge of overall warehousing plans and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques to select proper storage locations and assemble items for shipment in accordance with shipping requests; ability to process and independently complete shipping and receiving documents ensuring correctness of quantities, identification criteria, and labeling; skill in building pallet loads of items according to the type of conveyance on which the items are to be shipped and their destination; skill in operating mechanized equipment, e.g., utility vehicles, forklifts, mobile stock selectors, and electromechanical automated equipment controlled by computer terminals to receive and transmit storage, inventory and requisition data. Knowledge of lifting techniques and best practices, and ability to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
