Materials Engineer Jobs

onsemi is searching for a Materials Engineer who will bridge the gap between materials science, part design, and process recipe for the growth of silicon carbide crystal. The purpose of this role is to accelerate the adoption of new materials, specifications, and processes at onsemi. This position will report to the Crystal Growth Process Engineering Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, 3D models, and computer-generated reports.
• Acts as a technical resource to all areas of Quality Control.
• Implements, communicates, and monitors ongoing product quality standards and recommend improvements.
• Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions or make improvements.
• Advise equipment/product design engineers on next generation equipment/product improvements.
• Work with the design, test, sourcing, program management, and finance teams to transition new materials and processes to production.

• Works well both independently and as a team player, strong work ethics.
• Can make strategic decisions and deliver succinct, direct plans to teams for execution.
• Ability to interpret and speak to process and quality principles including data review.
• Quality Audit and Quality System, i.e., ISO 9000 experience.
• Knowledge of modern manufacturing methodologies and terminology.
• Demonstrated leadership, motivation, and training skills for a diverse workforce.
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and present it to specialists and non-specialists.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to effectively read documents such as specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints.
• Experience with design of high temperature vacuum chambers, piping, and systems.
• Experience with high-purity, semiconductor grade, liquid, and gas distribution systems.
• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering or Material Science degree from an accredited university.
• Manages multiple projects and priorities with good organizational and time management skills (both project and self).
• Experience with specification, installation, and commissioning of vacuum pumping systems, high current power supplies, and other semiconductor processing equipment.
• 5+ years equipment engineering experience.
