Job Description

This person is the glue that holds it all together, the catalyst who takes it to the next level and the bearer of the brand. A keen understanding of advertising, audience, and analytics is a must. As a nationally-recognized and Smithsonian-affiliated aerospace and science center, the Air Zoo is an industry leader in STEAM education programming, immersive exhibits, one- of-a-kind artifacts, and out-of-this-world experiences. If you are our next Marketing & Communications Manager, you will be a well-organized, effective, results-driven, project manager who can seamlessly work with and lead others. You must also have exceptional interpersonal communication and writing skills.


Measurables:Timely campaign deployment and effectiveness, project management, budget management, and other deliverables as assigned to support the mission of the Air Zoo


Brand, Content & Management Responsibilities

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Review all advertising and promotional materials (visual, written or spoken) for consistency, accuracy, audience and voice
  • Oversee Voucher Partner Program
  • Supports department needs for trade shows and conference/exhibitor opportunities
  • Increase earned and unearned revenue streams through successful planning and execution of effective marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for monitoring campaigns across all channels and implementing changes to scope as well as reporting on deliverables as deemed appropriate
  • Responsible for all Public Relations communications and scheduling of interviews
  • Manage departmental purchase orders and reconciliations
  • Dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as part of the Air Zoo’s commitment to a welcoming environment for all
  • Manage and enforce the Air Zoo’s branding and voice, both internally and externally
  • Plan and manage the annual budget for marketing
  • Ensure all deadlines are met and departmental approvals are managed appropriately
  • Support the President & CEO, and the Director of Marketing & Development with presentation needs and board packets (quarterly)
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, and weekly communications meetings
  • Invest in the success of the Air Zoo by being fearlessly innovative and pitching new creative ideas and concepts
  • Oversee and manage all elements of the campaign strategy
  • Manage the project assignments and workflow for both the Graphic Designer and Digital Content Creator
  • Help further the development and organization of the Air Zoo’s marketing process and production schedules


Print Advertising & Promotion

  • Manages all print orders, direct mail campaigns
  • Manage distribution partners and ship/order materials as needed
  • Ensure that all on-site promotional and program material needs are met
  • Research new partners and execute new ad buys
  • Assigns photography and video needs as necessary
  • Manage current contracts and deadlines


Digital Marketing

  • Manage website content and oversee relationship with the developer
  • Set budgets and oversee digital ad buys through partner
  • Work with Digital Content Creator to support events and programs organically through social media channels and video creation
  • Manage digital partner content and identify new opportunities
  • Manage marketing email platform and schedule; oversee all org-based email correspondences; obtain and manage content, proofing, accuracy, brand and voice, and audience/list; obtain timely department approvals and execute campaigns
  • CRM: Oversees the public facing webform content and activation for program/event registration; also approves acknowledgement forms and other public facing correspondence for brand/voice
  • Support all departments as needed for
  • Review campaign effectiveness and report metrics


Broadcast & Outdoor Media

  • Manages annual contract and scheduling for outdoor advertising
  • Manage the contracts and scheduling of meetings, on-site segments and interviews
  • Oversees giveaways and other extra promotional opportunities
  • Writes/approves scripts for radio spots


Supervision

  • The Graphic Designer and Digital Content Creator will report to this manager after necessary onboarding and role acclimation have been met.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Understanding and ability to decipher Google and social platform analytics
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, and strong planning and organizational skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of marketing experience required; 5 years or more of marketing experience preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Detail oriented and analytical
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience required
  • Good sense of layout and design
  • Ability to think strategically and operate effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Passion for learning about the Air Zoo and telling our story to a wide audience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing print, digital, broadcast, and outdoor advertising campaigns
  • Audience targeted campaign experience preferred
  • Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills
  • Experience coordinating projects across multiple departments
  • Basic experience in website maintenance and development
  • Business Marketing or Communications degree (or directly related degree) or equivalent years of direct experience with high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
