Job Description

Organization Description:

Surge for Water is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that invests in communities with safe water, sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health solutions to help end the cycle of poverty. Surge is currently active in Haiti, Indonesia, Philippines, and Uganda.


Surge works with community-based organizations (CBOs), our local implementing partners, to deliver infrastructure and education programs to communities, schools, and households.


Each intervention advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the most impact on Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Other goals advanced include Goal 1: No Poverty and Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth.


Marketing & Development Intern -Potential Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Research future funding opportunities, specifically with corporations
  • Support our US Annual Gala by researching and reaching out to companies for in-kind support and sponsorships
  • Support the use of Salesforce via data management
  • Identify potential grant opportunities and create a plug-and-play grant booklet
  • Support management of donors


Social media management

  • Analyze engagement rates on social media
  • Identify ways to create more engaging content on social media
  • Support posting schedules on LinkedIn, Instagram, & Twitter


Marketing & PR

  • Develop and update team bios for Surge’s website
  • Support blog as needed, including writing articles
  • Draft applications for community organizations


Desired Skills:

  • Research skills
  • Critical and creative thinking
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Chicago area location a plus but not necessary
  • Self-motivated
  • Organized with strong attention to detail


Projected Duration/Timeline:

Surge is interested in working with 1 student for 10+ hours/week for 10-15 weeks.


Surge is prepared to begin and manage this project as soon as July 2023


Compensation: This is a volunteer or internship opportunity.
