Job Summary


The Market Supervisor provides strategic and tactical merchandising support for all categories to increase market share, sales, and profitability. The Market Supervisor provides fact-based analysis and recommendations to management using local market intelligence in the areas of: consumer and competitive data as well as intra-company best practices and trends. Additional responsibilities include conducting analysis and coordination at the division/area level category plans. The Market Supervisor exhibits effective leadership and direction to the retail staff and vendor and broker representatives to support the promotional and category management goals.


Responsibilities and Duties


  •  Assists with development of new products, programs, and processes to achieve and maintain industry leadership within each specific category.
  •  Collaborates on merchandising plan with Sign Artist, Market Managers and Marketing.
  •  Analyzes competitive ad/promotional activity and reviews programming effectiveness vs. competition.
  •  Assists in determining appropriate product assortment based on category strategies.
  •  Assists in the development and implementation of competitive consumer based category business plans in collaboration with vendors.
  •  Assists in creation and implementation of the 52 week promotion calendar (including writing ads) by category to support merchandising strategies / initiatives and conducts post-promotional analysis and recommends appropriate action.
  •  Evaluates new items and makes recommendation to category manager.
  •  Assists in designing schematics and recommends adjacencies that support the role of the category.
  •  Monitors pricing strategy/goals by category/market place and makes recommendations as necessary.
  •  Meets with vendors as directed to analyze category performance, assortment / new items, competitive / consumer trends and identifies category development opportunities.
  •  Coordinate promotions for seasonally appropriate merchandise.
  •  Conducts regular market visits including competition as directed.
  •  Conducts analysis and makes recommendation to category plan based on evaluation of past performance, consumer/competitive/company trends and market place SWOT to Market Manager.
  •  Monitors category sales targets and makes recommendations to Market Manager to make adjustments to programs as needed.
  •  Reviews competitive activity and recommends strategy across categories. Evaluates past programming efficiency and effectiveness.


Qualifications And Skills


  •  Must be impeccably groomed and maintain good hygiene.
  •  Extensive food product knowledge and ability to learn a wide variety of products.
  •  Excellent customer service skills.
  •  The Market Supervisor must possess a strong dedication toward learning, and motivation to progress in a market environment.
  •  Cleanliness, organization and the ability to work well in a team situation.
  •  Possess excellent basic math skills and have the ability to operate a cash register POS system and Microsoft based computer systems.
  •  At least two years of sales, merchandising, supervising and leadership experience.
  •  High school or equivalent education required.
