We have an immediate opening for an experienced Manufacturing Safety Manager at our newly expanded plant in Port Manatee, Florida.
This facility manufactures cryogenic equipment to support the company’s industrial gas and liquified natural gas (LNG) business. In addition to pressure vessels, distillation columns, piping skids and cold boxes it is also the world’s leading manufacturer of (LNG) heat exchangers. Each heat exchanger consists of coil wound tube bundles housed within an aluminum or stainless-steel pressure shell, all of which are assembled and welded by skilled employees at the plant.
This facility employs over 300 personnel made up of leadership and administration, welders, production, maintenance, and warehouse technicians. This plant operates 3-shifts Monday-Friday with additional shifts on weekends. The site also is home to a world-class Process Development Unit used for research and development.
The Safety Manager is accountable for providing direct field support on a broad array of activities to ensure employee/business compliance and adherence to corporate policies and standards. The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing detailed Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) strategies, plans, and structure to foster a zero-injury culture.
This position reports to the Global EH&S organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Manager, site leadership team, and the entire site workforce to lead the successful execution, monitoring, and oversight of safe manufacturing activities. The manager will partner with EH&S professionals within the region and at our other global manufacturing sites to identify and implement best practices.
The Safety Manager will reside at Port Manatee but is expected to lead in the development, execution, oversight, long-term sustainability and improvement of the safety programs across all NA discrete manufacturing sites.
- Advance a proactive safety culture across all manufacturing sites.
- Support site Environmental and Emergency programs including: ARP/RMP, Storm Water Protection Plan Environmental reporting, Hazardous waste handling & Shipment training, HAZCOM Lead.
- Provide support to the leadership and safety teams at our U.S. discrete manufacturing sites through best practice sharing and monthly/quarterly EHS performance reviews.
- Coordination and alignment of Manufacturing safety programs and work processes.
- Develop alignment between business groups, facilities, and R&D to ensure safety work processes are being maximized.
- Support site managers to ensure adequate safety training programs and compliance within the manufacturing facilities.
- Own, manage, and maintain local safety work processes, standards, and procedures, while ensuring adherence and alignment with Global Air Products Policies.
- Champion work processes which include the ability to compile safety metric information, analyze data, and utilize this information to develop continuous improvement plans and projects.
- Assess work practices, performance, and lead change as it relates to Behavioral Safety programs with the goal of creating a proactive safety culture.
- Direct support during unannounced regulatory inspections (e.g., OSHA) and participation in post incident or announced regulatory inspections at NA discrete manufacturing locations.
- Manage safety training for new hires and incumbent employees, perform safety training and coordinate with the learning/training team for the organization.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and meetings for all shifts.
- Leverage these regular reviews of safety data for goal setting and prioritization of improvement projects in the discrete manufacturing organization.
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to manufacturing facilities on injury management, incident reporting and investigations, global EH&S Standards and safe work practices.
- Courage to challenge status quo & drive to make decisions needed to achieve critical goals.
- Ability to provide personal leadership in delivering World Class Safety.
- Training and experience in incident investigation.
- A minimum of bachelor’s degree in EH&S or technical field.
- Strong passion and commitment to employee involvement, team building, diversity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated experience in leveraging leading indicators to prevent injury and incidents.
- Continuous Improvement (CI) facilitator training a plus.
- Experience leading and influencing safety in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience and understanding of document management systems and management of change systems.
- Demonstrated project planning, execution, and organizational skills.
