Job Description
The Research Manager provides oversight and manages all research activities within the department and in direct support of the CARD Executive Director. Responsible for investigating, identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring systems to ensure that research studies and protocols comply with Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards, scientific procedures and stay within timelines. The Research Manager will train, orient and supervise research staff. This person is responsible for conducting research assessments and serving as the main point of contact for research coordinators outside and within KKI and will prepare progress reports for the principal investigator and assists in preparation for NIH reports and grants.


  • Conduct presentations to internal and external audiences related to CARD research and/or autism.
  • Formulates and implements protocol for the study/trial; monitors study activity and prepares reports to funding agencies and investigators as appropriate.
  • Manages and directs the planning, scheduling and carrying out of day-to-day clinical trial and other types of research protocol activities and procedures, ensuring efficient workflow and adequate care and treatment of research subjects. Manages the activities of Research Coordinators and Research Assistants, sets priorities, delegates tasks and ensures research projects are carried out accordingly.
  • Prepare job descriptions, and ensure that assessments conducted by REACH staff for other KKI departments are being invoiced correctly.
  • Provides general research project oversight, problem resolution and effective human resource allocation among various research projects, as well as mentoring and professional development of research staff.
  • Conducts audits and safeguards so that all clinical/research trial activities are carried out in accordance with established research protocol and standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedural requirements.
  • Responsible for all facets of administrative supervision of research staff including scheduling and approval of leave, overtime, etc. for maintaining performance management systems and completing all required performance reviews, in collaboration with the PI. This will also include identifying and providing opportunities for professional growth and continuing development of the support staff.
  • Design, Coordinate and execute research protocols with principal investigators and study coordinators with whom REACH is collaborating.
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the recruitment, care, and treatment of patient research subjects; coordinates services with other internal departments, external clinical services, and allied service agencies.
  • Serves as primary point of liaison and coordination between study coordinators, investigators, ancillary departments, research subjects, sponsoring organizations, and/or regulating bodies.
  • Prepare summaries of research assessments to be shared with families. Make referrals as necessary.
  • Oversee the interviewing, hiring, training and orientation of research and data entry staff.
  • Assesses operational, financial, and material requirements for studies. and has formal responsibility to develop and manage budgets and funding mechanisms as appropriate.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite, including Excel, Access and Word.
  • Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
  • Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.


EDUCATION


  • PhD highly preferred.
  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Public Health, or related field.


EXPERIENCE


  • Must have a minimum of two years’ recent supervisory/management experience.
  • Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a research setting.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with autism and toddlers.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience administering standardized assessments.
