The Regulatory Legal team at Capital One tackles legally complex issues impacting the entire company. We are seeking an attorney who is collaborative, inquisitive, and enthusiastic about the law. You’ll need strong analytical and organizational skills, great judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. We want someone with an ownership mentality who nonetheless enjoys being part of a team and who can interact with and influence across departments and job levels. Come ready to grow and have fun while doing it. We’ll help you learn the rest.

By joining Capital One, you will become a member of a leading financial services institution, and collaborate daily with diverse, talented individuals to achieve results that benefit Capital One’s customers, our associates, and our shareholders. As an attorney on the Regulatory Legal team, you will help support business operations and risk offices, business-aligned attorneys, Compliance and Audit professionals, and more. Working closely with these partners across each of Capital One’s lines of business, you will be a go-to resource across the company on interpreting new laws and regulations applicable to Capital One. Additionally, you will advise our legal and business partners on how to solve problems in multiple subject matters across the company.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first legal touchpoint for all new laws, rules, and regulations that may be applicable to Capital One’s lines of business, and draft accurate and understandable summaries for business lines
  • Do all this (and more) in a highly-collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibilities, promotes a growth mindset, and rewards your innovation and intellectual curiosity
  • Analyze existing and newly enacted laws in fair lending, privacy, marketing, AML/BSA, payments, bank regulation, and all the other laws impacting Capital One, and provide nuanced, effective advice to legal and business stakeholders, in partnership with subject matter experts, in those areas
  • Advise lines of businesses on the legal significance and interpretation of applicable laws and regulations tailored to specific business processes and practices

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • 4+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency doing work related to the financial service industry
  • Ability and desire to learn new areas of law
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team player
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs
