Job Description
BES is a national nonprofit organization that identifies and prepares excellent leaders to transform education in their communities. Over more than two decades, BES has prepared leaders to found 200+ schools in 50 cities across 20 states and Washington DC, educating 63,000+ students – of whom 82 percent qualify for free/reduced lunch, and 94 percent identify as students of color. In all, BES has trained more than 2,700 leaders to found, lead, and grow schools through its leadership development offerings.


The Manager of Operations will be responsible for the day to day operational support of BES programs and services, as well as maintaining and streamlining the systems and processes that support successful program delivery. The successful candidate will get to work across teams and areas of responsibility, and contribute to the operational strategy as we enter a new 5-year strategic plan.


This is a full-time position, based in Greater Boston, Massachusetts. Travel is required up to 30% time. Commuting into the BES office in Boston is required at least once per week. Some evening and weekend work required; flexible hours during non travel periods. The Manager reports to the Sr. Director of Special Projects


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain, improve, update and analyze registration and enrollment information for each program year over year.
  • Virtual and in-person event support
  • Inventory, ship, and resupply supplies and swag as needed for the program team.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and ready to work in an environment with shifting priorities, as we grow and plan for the next 5 years.
  • Build and maintain Google Sites for specific programs and cross-program purposes
  • Work with vendors, contracted presenters, venues, and transportation to create a seamless experience in person or online.
  • Ceiling: $81,808
  • Monitor and report out on progress to goals, challenges in communication with participants, and any other concerns.
  • Starting maximum: $67,575
  • Strong technical skills with platforms such as Google Suite, Zoom, Zoho, Nearpod, and Mailchimp
  • Coordinate across teams to update and maintain systems as needed
  • Experience managing event logistics with large groups of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • CRM and related systems
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in a school or nonprofit environment, experience working remotely preferred
  • Experience in project management (can include curriculum planning as a teacher)
  • Alignment with BES team values
  • Train new employees on use of the systems for program-specific functions
  • Center the BES team values in all decisions and actions
  • Desire to learn and grow with the team
  • As needed for program-team related grant deliverables, coordinate dates and milestones and manage the team to complete assigned deliverables on schedule.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with external and internal stakeholders
  • Track timelines and deliverables for charter application submission to allow for adequate review prior to submission
  • Assist the Manager of Events and Operations in planning, executing, and following up from in-person events across the country.
  • Experience with coordination and execution of virtual events on Zoom, including webinars, trainings, and team meetings
  • History of taking action to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in a school or organization
  • Manage, arrange and coordinate support for virtual events (mostly in EST & CST)
  • Ability to reflect and iterate on an ongoing basis
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing education equity
  • Manager various administrative tasks in our CRM, including maintaining up to date information for clients; pulling / reporting on data; administering and analyzing surveys; creating invitations and other outreach
  • Following BES protocols, secure vendors and supplies as needed, with attention to competitive cost and relationships with vendors owned by women and people of color.
  • As requested by the program team, review, edit and send communications
  • Starting minimum: $59,569
  • Administrative tasks related to program support
  • Use Zoom, Nearpod, Google Slides and other software effectively to create a smooth participant experience in person or online.
