Job purpose

The Manager of Industrial Engineering leads a team of engineers, technicians, and training support staff to improve Operational Excellence within manufacturing, service, and distribution processes. This team is responsible for deploying, maintaining, and improving technical programs and processes for site Industrial Engineering, plant safety, continuous improvement, calibration/preventative maintenance, and on-the-job (OJT) training programs.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships and supply agreements with external calibration vendors
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Production, Systems, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality Engineering to implement and improve processes.
  • Partner with Production leadership to deploy strategic objectives to measure and improve cross training, train-the-trainer & training program effectiveness.
  • Develop and drive improvements to production team member training and onboarding program, improving training methods, systems, tools, and results.
  • Coach and empower cross-functional teams on project execution, continuous improvement, and production efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the deployment, sustainment, and continuous improvement of manufacturing and service tools, fixtures, equipment, and systems while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Analyze and improve the sequence of operations and process flow to safely maximize productivity of people, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate labor standards through the use of standardized time study methods.
  • Lead, align, and execute plans for Operational Excellence, including Lean/Six-Sigma and other total-cost improvement projects.
  • Lead the site production programs for calibrating, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting sensitive tools, equipment fixtures, and production systems.
  • Ensure that equipment is calibrated and maintained in accordance with requirements, and that these activities are properly documented.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Electro-Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Technicians, Industrial Engineers, and Training support roles.
  • Ensure adequate facilities capacity, floor space, and utilities to support plant operations, and maintain current facilities layout drawings.
  • Collaborate with divisional safety, engineering, and production leaders to develop and deploy site operations safety programs

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of relevant FDA and OSHA regulations and industry standards preferred
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on industrial engineering, training, continuous improvement, safety, continuous improvement, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years leading and developing technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience deploying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies

Working conditions

Indoor, office setting, light industrial plant, some light background noise due to production operations.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to hear verbal instructions.
  • 20/20 corrected vision with the ability to differentiate colors.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit or stand for 8 to 10 hours; may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Supervisory responsibility

Management responsibility for engineers and technical personnel. Will frequently give direction to personnel and act in a project management role with accountability for getting results through others.
