Westside Family Healthcare is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality primary medical care without regard to ability to pay. The Manager of Health Information Management (HIM) manages the HIM Analysts and the HIM Supervisor and manages the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. Responsibilities include processing patient records, managing projects, optimizing protected health information management workflows, and overseeing the release of health records to third parties.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain familiarity with current Westside Strategic Plan objectives and work with leadership and subordinates to ensure their accomplishment.
  • Manage vendor relationship with third-party data senders and data receivers and provide leadership in further developing the electronic exchange of PHI both within the organization and out to the community electronic infrastructure.
  • Identify site process improvement opportunities and lead PCMH team Quality Improvement activities.
  • Directly supervise the HIM Analysts and the HIM Supervisor, working with HR and the Director of Clinical Information Systems to recruit, screen, hire, orient, train, direct and monitor work, provide ongoing performance feedback and formal performance evaluations, implement corrective actions and make employment termination decisions.
  • Serve as the subject manager expert for HIM and for policies and concerns related to protected health information (PHI).
  • Audit and provide timely staff feedback to ensure staff compliance with the correct processing of all incoming patient medical information, ensuring accuracy of results and compliance with all federal regulations and laws.
  • Provide project status reporting to organizational leadership and ensure action items are completed.
  • Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained in accordance with HIPAA, HITECH and Cures Act regulations.
  • Lead and manage organizational projects related to the HIM department, providing project monitoring and control to ensure deliverables achieved on-time and on budget.
  • Assist Director of CIS with management and control pf complex multi-departmental or enterprise projects.
  • Evaluate current processes and lead improvement initiatives for HIM workflows as they interact with other departments.
  • Identify areas of risk and provide recommendations on policies and practices to avoid information blocking activities.
  • Serve as an escalation point for patient complaints and answer patients’ questions regarding HIM Department operations, policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve interfacing issues with data senders.
Requirements:

MINIMUM OBJECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in HIM, business management, healthcare management or related field;
  • Minimum five years’ of experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system;
  • Five years’ experience in health information management.
  • Three years’ direct supervisory or management experience;
