- Assists the AVP in overseeing the central disability services and accommodations, central personnel, and central budgets for all Rutgers Universities within the system.
- Assists in managing the central accommodation and services budget to ensure that accounting of central services are in place and ensuring that all expenses, invoices, purchases, and services are rendered and reported appropriately according to University policy, processes and procedures.
- Manages the central personnel that support disability services throughout the university.
- Works in partnership with university administrators, faculty, staff, compliance officers, and legal counsel in monitoring and implementing the university’s practices in providing academic adjustments, accommodations and services in accordance with federal and state regulations related to students, faculty, staff, and visitors with disabilities.
- Assists in providing expertise and training for all members of the University community regarding disability issues and matters.
- Assists in the preparation and review of various reports and analysis denoting outcomes, progress, adverse trends related to disability matters and informing the university administration regarding proper actionable steps in ensuring continued compliance and reduction in risk to the university.
- Assists the Associate Vice President ( AVP ) in carrying out university-wide policies, processes, procedures, best practices, strategic planning and vision for disability services and initiatives for all Rutgers Universities (Camden, Newark, New Brunswick and RBHS ) within the system.
- Includes but is not limited to management of the central accommodation and services funds for accommodations and services.
- Assists in the development of strategic plans university-wide at both the university level and with each Rutgers University within the system.
- Masters degree in special education, counselor education, higher education administration, student affairs, or in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- One (1) year of management experience.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience required in working with individuals with disabilities.
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
- Expertise in training and public speaking a must as well as skilled in researching and reviewing literature to develop training programs, workshops and webinars.
- Must be comfortable working with multiple constituencies in a complex and diverse organizational environment.
- Knowledge and familiarity with various assistive and adaptive technologies.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience applying federal and state ADA guidelines in a higher education setting.
- Experience working with diverse groups and populations. Experience using assistive technologies.
- Required experience in budget management.
- Must have good project management skills and be able to meet goals in a timely manner.
- Extensive experience in the handling of confidential disability related documentation and records according to federal and state laws.
- Strong background in student development and advising.
- Significant knowledge and experience in preparing, managing and operating large university budgets.
- One year or more of experience developing and monitoring budgets.
- One-two years business management experience.
- Two years or more of experience working in a higher education setting.
- Two years or more experience collecting, compiling and reporting disability services data.
- Must have strong computer skills and effective use of various software and hardware programs used in a multi-function disability office including but not limited to database systems, budgeting, email, social networking, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Web 2.0 technology and accessible technologies and information.
- Clean Driving Record.
