The Manager, Crisis Communications will work on a team focused on strengthening McDonald’s resiliency and capability to protect and build brand reputation globally.Reporting to the Director, Crisis Communications, the individual in this role will be responsible for:
- Advising the business on emerging risks and trends and making recommendations on mitigation efforts.
- Training and preparing senior leadership and subject matter experts for media interviews and briefings.
- Serving as an advisor to senior leaders within the business on reputational risks and threats and providing recommendations on response plans.
- Running internal approval process for response materials.
- Triaging daily inbound inquiries to the Global Media Relations team and working with SMEs across the business to develop response.
- Serving as media subject matter expert on cross functional communications response teams.
- Supporting development of system communications materials to keep McDonald’s partners informed of issues.
- Creating and executing integrated rapid response communications plans (Paid, earned, owned social), media statements, FAQs and external facing materials (e.g. newsroom posts) across a number of issue areas.
- Working collaboratively with Global Communications Measurement and Insights team to support monitoring, track emerging issues, use data to inform response and measure impact of communications work.
- Building and expanding connections with a network of media that cover the brand and industry.
Qualifications
- Strong executive presence and experience managing high-exposure assignments.
- Proven experience counselling senior-level executives and activating communications strategy with c-suite executives.
- Is open, honest and direct but tactful and respectful in communications style and approach.
- Comfortable leading on developing executive communications strategies and rolling up sleeves to execute.
- Thrives in fast-paced environments. Able to work independently with minimal direction. Is flexible, collaborative and deadline driven.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, politics, communications, business or related field.
- Deep communications expertise that is global in nature and spans both external (partners such as consumers and influencers) and internal subject areas, either in-house or at an agency.
- Natural storyteller with excellent speaking, writing and editing skills; can easily simplify messages.
- A problem solver with a bias for action; understands how to aim to clarify amidst ambiguity.
- On-the-record experience as a spokesperson with local, national and international media organizations.
- Experience working with counsel to support communications related to corporate litigation.
- Crisis communications and rapid response experience at an agency, corporation and/or political campaign.
- The ideal candidate is a proactive, strategic, solutions-focused leader with the following attributes:
- Global eye for business, with a strong grasp of finance as well as a demonstrated ability to understand business strategy and how to use communications as a mechanism to drive that strategy.
