Job Description

TheMajor Gifts Officer/Vice of Donor Developmentis responsible for advancing the mission of Messiah Lifeways through fundraising, donor development, and stewardship efforts. The Major Gifts Officer/Vice President of Donor Development is responsible to effectively operate in an organizational culture characterized by teamwork, openness, engagement, and deliverable results and must successfully collaborate across departments.


Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the key staff person for grant development in support of the work of Messiah Lifeways. Coordinates with staff in the attainment and tracking of appropriate grants.
  • Writes regularly on philanthropy/generosity for internal and external audiences
  • Partner with the President & CEO in planning, conducting and monitoring all fundraising programs, i.e., annual appeals, special projects and capital campaigns and ensuring growth of key constituencies.
  • Lead development team, delegating responsibilities and supporting each member's success
  • Serves as Development representative in the community and with potential corporate sponsors/donors
  • Strategize and manage the process of researching and cultivating donors and prospects, including foundations.
  • Provides vision for philanthropy at Messiah Lifeways and fosters buy-in and ownership around that vision across the organization and its various constituents
  • Establishes and implements annual calendar of fundraising and communications activities/events
  • Create and execute successful strategies to meet all fundraising goals. This includes planning an appropriate mix of annual giving, planned giving, and special gift campaigns and monitoring return on investment.
  • Serve as an ambassador of Messiah Lifeways and represent the organization at the appropriate organizational and public events and activities. This may include planning events, working with other departments on pertinent projects, etc. May also work with Marketing & Communications on newsletters, mailings, Annual Report, etc.
  • Works with Exec Team and ML Board of Directors to identify funding priorities


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Messiah Lifeways mission, core values, and operating culture and an appreciation of the beliefs and practices of the Brethren in Christ Church
  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form with donors, board members, residents, clients, families, staff, external partners and the general public are essential
  • Intermediate skills in such areas as project management, performance improvement, operational initiatives, customer service and budget planning and monitoring are preferred
  • Good judgment and the ability to make decisions independently as well as to work with a team are necessary
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, personal integrity and the ability to present Messiah Lifeways in a positive, professional, and engaging manner
  • Intermediate electronic technology skills especially related to GSuite, fundraising databases (Results Plus, PG Calc) and spreadsheets are required


Qualifications:

  • Prefer 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, and/or financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience in a service-related business and a commitment to service excellence
  • Knowledge of fundraising ethics, development concepts and practices, financial services, and estate planning are essential
  • Experience driving financial results
  • Working knowledge of (or willingness and ability to learn) retirement services fields such as Nursing Homes, Personal Care Homes, Community Services, and Continuing Care Communities is preferred
  • Graduate of a post-secondary education program in business, theology, psychology, wellness, health care, administration or other relevant program
  • Experience managing operational issues
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership positions in leadership roles in senior housing, hospitality, health care or other related organization
