Job Description
Welcome to Grayson College. Grayson College is in the heart of Grayson County and provides a vital link for higher education. GC offers small classes for personalized instruction, affordable tuition, caring, professional faculty, and the convenience of day, evening or online classes. The college serves approximately 5,000 students annually. Performs non-trade specific repairs to all campus buildings. Assists the other trades as needed.


The salary range for this position is $13.87 to $20.80 hourly.


Benefits


  • Personal Leave- 2 days for FT employees per year
  • 40% Assists the other trades as requested.
  • Tuition-FT employees, their spouse & dependents are eligible for coverage of full Grayson College tuition amount.
  • 45% Performs general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the campus.
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Holidays- Labor Day, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Spring Break, Memorial Day, and Independence Day
  • 10% General maintenance duties will include moving furniture, boxes, etc., setting up for and/or working special events, building checks over holidays when buildings are unoccupied, and on-call duty. Will perform routine preventative maintenance (greasing equipment, oiling motors, changing belts, changing air filters, changing light bulbs, etc.). Attends training sessions required by the supervisor.

  • Physical Requirements The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computers, printers or record boxes. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Job requires average agility and dexterity.
  • Interpersonal Skills Normal courtesy in dealing with others is required. Work involves minimal contacts, usually within the department. Contact usually involving routine, non-sensitive issues. External contacts are limited to incidental contacts with visitors, or no contact.
  • Work Environment Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory & industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty and noisy locations. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
  • Education This position requires a high school education or GED.
  • Other Skills Two year's general maintenance experience is required. Experience with utility vehicles and basic hand tools is needed. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and withstand extreme hot and cold working conditions, loud noise environments; lift 100 pounds; walk and/or stand for long periods of time, and climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Working in the boiler room requires being exposed to non-weather wet, humid conditions and extreme heat; working inside freezers requires being exposed to extreme non-weather cold. Position also requires work in high, precarious places, exposure to noxious odors, loud noises, and electrical shock. As needed and can include some weekend hours. On-call duty on a rotation basis approximately one weekend every month. Working special events (graduation, homecoming, etc.,) is required, and 2nd shift as requested. May be required/requested to travel to off-campus sites as needed.
  • Experience Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
