The RHC nurse is responsible for the assessment and direct care of patients of all ages presenting to the clinic for appointments and via telephone. The clinic nurse works with providers to safely implement an individualized plan of care designed to meet the healthcare needs of each patient. The clinic nurse will communicate with ancillary staff, other departments within the organization, as well as patients and their families. The clinic nurse will provide education to patients regarding their healthcare needs and preventive care information appropriate for age, sex, and health status.
All RHC nurses will report directly to the RHC Director.
Requirements:Position Requirements:
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May require prolonged periods of standing, moving and bending
- Ability to perform complex and varied tasks in a fast-paced work environment subject to stress and interruption
- Current Missouri license as a LPN or RN
- Graduate of a professional nursing program
- Current BLS certification
- Knowledge of nursing scope of practice and use accordingly
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs pre-visit chart review for completeness including areas of health maintenance exams, medications, tests, and visits; and assists in the coordination of these tasks per provider protocols.
- Works efficiently and closely with other staff and departments for the care and treatment of the patient.
- Maintenance of annual competencies.
- Adheres to the facility’s Standards of Excellence.
- Demonstrates ability to analyze situations and arrive at sound, practical decisions, using good clinical judgement.
- Responsible for the completion and proper documentation of patient care waived testing as required by Rural Health Clinic standards.
- Assists in the completion of medication refill process per provider approved protocol.
- Documents all patient care/procedures/telephone calls concisely, descriptively, accurately, and completely.
- Assists in scheduling referrals such as radiology, labs, or specialists and completes insurance prior authorization as necessary.
- Acts as patient advocate, facilitates patient into the system, and helps patient attain what he/she needs.
- Keeps flow of patients in accordance with time of appointment in order to avoid delays for the provider and undue waiting for the patient.
- Provides quality customer service by being attentive, helpful, friendly, and professional with patients, visitors, and employees.
- Collection of subjective and objective data contributes to the assessment or the patient and documents appropriately in the patient chart.
- Performs basic clinic nursing skills.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice, continued growth, and self-evaluation.
- Administers medications, injections, and vaccines under the direction of a provider in accordance with policy and procedure.
