The Livestock Manager is responsible for supervision, planning and control of the company’s Cattle operations from reproduction through harvest. This operation includes three cow calf herds, 2 yearling cells, a grass-fed finishing herd, and associated bull battery. Expectations for this role include proper animal husbandry, pasture management/stewardship, infrastructure maintenance, strategies for maximum yield, and machinery and equipment maintenance, and harvest/post-harvest processes/controls. The Livestock Manager is also responsible for general departmental organization, staff supervision, and adherence to maintaining standards for safe, high-quality meats raised in an environmentally sustainable manner which are also physically appealing and can be integrated into and enhance the various tours that occur on ranch property.
Specific roles/responsibilities will include the following, which in some cases involve training and delegation to other employees:
  • Creation and execution of daily chores as related to cattle management
  • Maintaining herd health, including preventative care
  • Developing and executing rotational grazing/pasture management plans. This includes but is not limited to weed and invasive species control withing the pastures systems, and development/implementation of general forage improvement projects.
  • Administration, management
  • Developing and executing breeding plans for cattle
  • Maintaining equipment and infrastructure such as fencing (High tensile and temporary electric fence building, maintenance, and use), farm equipment, implements, etc.
o Maintain records for livestock health, reproduction, and harvest, as well as pasture management.
o Create and maintain inventory of all livestock supplies.
o Support livestock team management including managing schedules and time off requests, approving hours.
o Create training programs and SOPs to manage staff around animal husbandry, animal products and other areas of operation as needed.
  • Safety: In addition to safety training, the employee must obey all safety policies and wear proper PPE as needed or specified in safety policies.
Required Experience:
  • Experience with equipment or infrastructure maintenance and repair is a plus
  • 2 or more years of experience with livestock production, ideally in a management capacity. Experience with cattle breeding, health and emergencies, as well as basic health needs
  • Experience executing intensive rotational grazing, rangeland and forage management
  • Good team player that can work well with co-workers
  • Organized self-starter with excellent observation skills, and the ability to self-manage and problem solve independently
  • Computer Literate (Word, Excel, Outlook)
