Lineworker Apprentice Jobs

Position Summary

Responsible for erecting wooden poles and related equipment to construct, repair or replace transmission and distribution power lines and related equipment.

Intermediate

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints.
• String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons, and buildings, setting lines in place and using winches to adjust tension.
• Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring, using wiring diagrams and electrical-testing instruments.
• Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs.
• Install, maintain, test and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
• Excavate and drill holes to erect and maintain structures
• Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.
• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position

• Must have all required tools
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
• Able to meet all physical requirements.
• Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft)
• Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
