Duties
- Performing outreach to individuals or groups within and outside the agency.
- Acquiring, cataloging, digitizing, and providing access to the DHS Library's online resources.
- Providing reference and information services.
- Planning, evaluating, and acquiring online resources for the RLIS program.
- You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
- You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters Drug-Free Workplace Program. The incumbent is required to sign a Condition of Employment form (for certain positions identified for drug testing) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required, prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer; and employee will be subject to random testing while employed with the Department in a TDP.

- Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov/).
- Permanent Change of Duty Station (PCS) Expenses will not be paid.

- This is a non-bargaining unit position.
- This position is at the full performance level.
- DHS uses e-Verify, an Internet-based system, to confirm the eligibility of all newly hired employees to work in the United States.
- A pre-employment drug test is required.
- All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Must meet Time-In-Grade requirements.
- A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
- Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree, OR
- Effectively communicating orally and in writing with customers.
- Performing Library acquisition procedures and practices.
- Solving problems within one or more major library functions (e.g., collection development, reference, cataloging, and/or library automation).
