Job Description
Summary You will serve as a LIBRARIAN in the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) of NAVXDIVINGU. Responsibilities You will be responsible for the NEDU Science Library Program, which includes research reference assistance, acquisition, cataloging, serving as the Records Management Liaison and the Integrated Risk Management Program Assessable Unit Manager (AUM). You will be responsible for the collection management of all materials in the library, including archival material. You will identify NEDU staff needs for research information, performs database and library collection searches. You will interact directly with external organizations to research and provide archived / historical information. You will procure library supplies, reference books, periodicals, pamphlets, technical reports and miscellaneous publications required for support of NEDU's research mission. You will manage library owned and SharePoint sites and share drive folders related to routing, library business, and document delivery. You will assess current library policies, practices, software, access to resources, hardware and identify ways to modernize library practices and access to resources through use of technology. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band NH-01 (GS-04) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: "Assisting with the coordination, direction and administration of the science library collection and services (e.g.: researching reference, implementing standard library science methodology and internally approving practices and policies, planning budgets for the acquisition of books, journals, technical reports, reprints, library equipment, and related service contracts for library equipment and projects) to support government, military, or naval personnel or projects." Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. -OR- A Total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. My education, training, and experience established knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
