Job Description

Summary: DAWSON is looking for a Librarian to support the Smokey Bear Collection, housed within the USDA's Special Collections Unit.

Duties:

The Librarian will lead the following activities:

1. Coordination of digitization of Smokey film collection
2. Coordination of digitization of Smokey ephemera
3. Coordination of the inclusion of Smokey finding aids and other sub-collections through the addition of finding aids to NAL Alma Primo online catalog, or connection of Archives Space to Alma Primo with appropriate records and linkages
4. Coordination of public interface and search tools for Smokey collections in Alma Primo
5. Coordination of 3-4 online collection releases of Smokey poster collection, with at least one release prepared for January 2024
6. Coordination of 3-4 online collection releases of Smokey film collection, with at least one release prepared for January 2024
7. Coordination of 3-4 online collection releases of Smokey “files” (other archival holdings) collection
8. Coordination of procurement and preparation of durable crates for shipping Smokey materials to partners, among other duties.

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Master’s degree in library science and previous experience working in a special collections
or archives.
• Subject matter expertise related to USDA Forest Service Smokey Bear campaigns and
related programs.
• Demonstrated expertise in configuring and using Archives Space archival management
system.
• Familiarity with library bibliographic records, the ability to interpret MARC records and
experience working with research library collections.
• Professional experience and knowledge of the principles and practices of
archival administration, description, and arrangement, and familiarity with current
developments in processing procedures.
