Augusta University Libraries invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as the Information Services Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Reese Library and working under the direction the Directors of the Greenblatt and Reese Libraries, this full-time, non-tenure track faculty position has the primary responsibility for oversight of all aspects of the Access Services Departments for the Augusta University Libraries, including information services, circulation, interlibrary loan, makerspace, virtual reality lab, statistical reporting, policy development and stacks maintenance within the broader context of the strategic plans and goals of the University Libraries as well as Augusta University. This position directly supervises 4 staff managers.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Daytime Managers, Evening/Weekend Managers, with Library Assistants, Library Clerks, and Student Assistants as indirect reports.
  • Oversee, develop, and implement responsive Access Services for the University Libraries including information services provided via online, in-person, chat, email, and phone contact methods.
  • Oversee, develop, and implement Resource Sharing services including interlibrary loan, document delivery and USG Gil Express loan program to ensure timely and accurate access to information for the AU Community of users and clinicians.
  • Participate in the library instruction program by teaching classes in the liaison area, and other areas as needed.
  • Analyze, coordinate, and create culture of continual improvement of Access Services procedures and services across both campuses to streamline and improve customer service.
  • Provide research assistance to faculty, staff, students, and library patrons seeking assistance, while maintaining high customer service standards.
  • Engage in service to the libraries, the university, the community, and the profession, including serving on committees.
  • Be active professionally in local, regional, and national associations and to contribute to professional literature.
  • Act as a liaison to one or more academic/university units.
  • Oversee the operation of the Creative Technology Lab and the Greenblatt virtual reality room to provide excellent educational experiences for student success.
  • Create and maintain online research guides.
  • Actively engage in professional development by conducting scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility; disseminate research by contributing to appropriate professional literature and/or conferences.
  • Compile and report statistics for institutional, state, and national reports.
  • Serve as liaison librarian to one or more academic units and will serve on library and institutional committees as a faculty member.
  • Participate in collection development, including the weeding/withdrawal of items from University Libraries collections.

Required Qualifications

  • Record of establishing and cultivating partnerships with units outside the library.
  • American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, evaluating, and mentoring employees.
  • Demonstrated success in inclusive and diverse approaches to the evaluation, development, and implementation of library services.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to develop, lead, and successfully complete projects.
  • 4 years of relevant experience working in Access/Information Services.

Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with 3-5 years of experience

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in library instruction and liaison responsibilities
  • Record of developing and implementing responsive and innovative Resource Sharing services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through scholarly research; participation and leadership in professional associations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits


This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary: 71,000 – 95,000 annually. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
