Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Legal Intern will work closely and collaboratively with our in-house Commercial Counsel, Contract LifeCycle Management (CLM) team, and other members of the in-house Legal Team during the Summer of 2023. The Legal Intern would primarily be responsible for reviewing contracts and other company records, supporting the Commercial Counsel with migrating contracts and documents across CLM systems and various other commercial law projects, taking part in commercial negotiation matters, and learning about daily affairs on a broad range of commercial law counseling and related transactional matters. Our ideal candidate would have excellent organizational skills and be willing to dive right in. The Legal Intern will report directly to the Commercial Counsel. This is a full-time remote position for the Summer months of 2023. Start and End date to be confirmed upon hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete basic training in CLM systems and basic onboarding training with respect to Covetrus’s lines of business.
  • Work directly with the Commercial Counsel and other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to identify, extract, and transfer contract data and files from an existing CLM system to a new CLM system
  • Collaborate closely with the Commercial Counsel and Procurement Business team overseeing the CLM transition project, and several other stakeholder teams across the Covetrus enterprise.
  • Analyze commercial and other contracts and documents to assess their scope and purpose, including the relevant data that they contain.
  • Other duties as needed or required.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
  • Program duration will be approximately June – August 2023, with exact start and end dates set upon hire
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must be able to work a full time schedule (approximately 40 hours per week) remotely
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience
  • Eager to learn and assist legal team to achieve its goals as a department and carry out its mission to provide practical, effective, and trusted legal services to clients
  • Must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school as a rising 2L or 3L student
Competencies (Skills & Abilities)
  • Goal and process oriented, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks; experience and judgment to plan and accomplish objectives in efficient manner.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Some familiarity with contracts and contract drafting preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, prioritize and manage multiple cross-functional projects to completion with minimal direction, and quickly shift from one situation or task to another.
  • Team player with passion, energy and commitment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work through large databases and dense written material with focus and precision.
  • Excellent analytical and reading comprehension skills, with a critical eye for detail.
  • Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a sense of humor.
