Duties


Summary


This position(s) is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. The selectee is not required to report to a government office, however, the option to work in one of the Agency offices may be available. In this position, you will serve as the focal point for the implementation of pertinent legislation, rules and regulations, the administration of activities related to collaborative agreements, inventions, patents, and associated matters.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-11:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience providing legal administrative support for the preparation and filing of patents; overseeing or performing reconciliations; researching and preparing patent applications; and utilizing automation systems to perform administrative duties. OR Education: Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field of study or LL.M degree. Related degrees may include legal administration, governmental administration, database management, biology, chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering. OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education directly related to the work of the position as stated above GS-12:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience overseeing junior staff or others in the preparation of a variety of documents for new patents applications; conducting comprehensive editorial reviews of patent applications; preparing reports and maintaining records of work accomplishments; and providing recommendations or justifications for pursuing actions in the patent application process.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
