The Role

Lumen's Enterprise User Experience Design & Research Team is seeking a Lead User Experience Designer with a solid foundation in UX. The Lead User Experience Designer will help create and improve B2B enterprise experiences. The Lead User Experience Designer will help reimagine and reinvent experiences to power the 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) that supports the workflows and needs of our customers across the LBGUPR (learn, buy, get, use, pay, renew) journey. This position will have a tremendous opportunity to directly influence and lead the user experience and strategy for the team/area they support.

The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment that requires self-direction, strong problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking paired with effective collaboration and clear communication. This individual is both highly analytical and highly creative with solid presentation skills. This individual can juggle a few projects while delivering high-quality work to the team(s) they support. This individual can justify their design decisions through clearly articulated rationale backed by an understanding of user-centered design techniques and methodologies.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain and suggest evolutions of our design principles and existing style guides with a holistic consideration of our future experiences.
  • Advocate for Lumen's end-users throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Push for strategic research that will help share the areas your support.
  • Establish, document, and validate design assumptions.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to more junior designers.
  • Proactively expand your own knowledge around inclusive design and accessibility.
  • Understand the importance of research, design thinking, and storytelling and how they help determine what solutions you design.
  • Be comfortable juggling multiple projects and partnering with stakeholders to set clear expectations around timelines and deliverables.
  • Effectively collaborate with Product and Development partners to bring experiences to life.
  • Create tactical and strategic deliverables for the areas you support (i.e., JTBD, UX scorecards, competitive evaluations, user flows, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity mockups, prototypes, etc.) that solve real user problems and achieve the desired outcome(s).
  • Identify new problems, opportunities, and desired outcomes for your team to solve.
  • Design simple and elegant experiences for complex solutions.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor's Degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related field
  • You're familiar and comfortable working within an Agile team using SAFe.
  • You rapidly understand project requirements, frequently fill in gaps of understanding, and accurately list trade-offs.
  • You're comfortable driving and facilitating conversations/interviews/workshops with stakeholders to further understand the problem space you work within and the users you design for.
  • Comfortable and familiar with one or more of the following design tools: UXPin, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, MURAL
  • You socialize your learnings with the rest of your team in a thoughtful, articulate way to enhance everyone's understanding of our products and users.
  • You solicit feedback from other designers as a tool for teaching different methods and benefits of good critique.
  • You challenge your team's understanding of the problem space and/or desired outcome(s).
  • You’re confident in your design decisions and able to communicate them with stakeholders in languages they understand.
  • You have a robust set of tactical user experience skills, a solid strategic influence, and a solid understanding of visual/UI design.
  • 8+ years of user-centered design techniques and methodologies
  • You can diverge and converge on ideas quickly and effectively.
  • A portfolio or case study that can be used to demonstrate your experience
  • You have an expert-level understanding of design principles, including best practices for inclusive design/accessibility, mobile, and responsive web design.
