Job Description

Universal Orlando Resort believes in-person collaboration is key to our success. Many of our Team Members work in a hybrid capacity, contributing from the workplace a minimum of three days per week. Some remote opportunities are available within specific departments. There are also roles that require being on-site full time. You’ll learn more about this during the application process.


JOB SUMMARY: Planning, leading, participating and supporting all divisions throughout UO with proficient operation of heavy equipment utilizing equipment such as Cat Loader, Cat Extended Boom, and Cat Backhoe. Performs proper rigging skills for loading, unloading, and transportation of large specimen trees and other equipment and materials. Supports management in directing and coordinating daily activities of department and employees.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and delegates work tasks among qualified crewmembers. Communicates performance expectations in an effort to ensure proper completion of tasks and provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement.
  • Assists with training new and current employees. Assigns who will provide daily training.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Actively reinforces company safety guidelines and programs and reports non-compliance. Leads work startup and stoppage, schedules breaks and monitors crewmember’s productivity and compliance with wardrobe/grooming standards, driving policy, radio usage, and other UO policies. Monitors care, condition, use and storage of tools, equipment and other UO property. Maintains material inventories.
  • Performs job duties as described in non-lead job description. Maintains and shares job knowledge, assists in developing employees.
  • Ensures proper completion of documentation. Captures written behaviors using the Lead Observation Report to support managerial and supervisory documentation.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other departments or crafts as needed. Communicates resource needs and work plans to Supervision. Provides two-way communications between work team, supervisor, and other departmental management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Responsible for overseeing and running daily activities of a heavy equipment team. In addition, being accountable for the daily support of heavy equipment operations throughout other departments on UO property. Furthermore, meeting with management on a consistent basis and discussing daily and future activities.

EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED preferred.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 7+ Years heavy equipment operation preferred; Six months to one year experience providing work direction of a crew or crews preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Florida Drivers License/ required to operate company vehicles. Annual Training and Certification is required for all of the following provided by UO; Caterpillar Loader, Caterpillar Extended Boom Lift, Caterpillar Backhoe-Loader, and JCB.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Heavy equipment operators must possess flexibility in regard to different shifts and short notice call in due to emergencies or department need. Completion of Lead Foundations course and demonstration of proficiency in division-specific Lead accountabilities as defined by the Post Training Technical Assessment.
