Overview:
The Alaska Office of Victims’ Rights (OVR) is currently recruiting to hire a full-time, permanent administrative assistant/law office assistant. This is an opportunity to work in a small (staff of 7), professional, state government legal office environment in downtown Anchorage. Free parking is included. This job posting will be open until the position is filled. The salary is State of Alaska, Range 11 – 13, depending on experience. The successful applicant will be trained and work “at will” and under the direction of the executive director and legal secretary. Regularly scheduled annual salary increases, medical coverage, and paid vacation and paid holidays are among the benefits included in the State of Alaska employee benefits package. OVR serves crime victims throughout Alaska from this Anchorage office; most victim contact will occur by telephone. Duties And Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Greeting guests
  • Opening and sorting mail
  • Making appropriate referrals to callers
  • Preparing routine legal documents
  • Maintaining electronic and paper case files
  • Preparing routine correspondence
  • Answering phones
  • Maintaining office calendar
  • Assembling electronic and paper case files
  • First point of contact within the office
  • Requesting documents from court files
  • Copying, scanning, shredding documents

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent, and
  • One year of clerical experience in a law office, OR
  • Two years of clerical experience in an office with front desk main duties
  • Must be an Alaska resident, and
Additional Required Information
Applicants are encouraged to provide a cover letter which will be used as a writing sample. This letter will demonstrate writing capabilities, attention to detail, and display professional work experience and/or education.
Special Note
This is a fully exempt job class under AS 39.25.110(3). Positions in the Legislative Affairs Agency are required to be politically neutral.
This position will transition from 37.5 hour to 40-hour work week beginning July 1, 2023 and salary will increase by 6.75%
