Job Description

Duties

  • Understands various chemical agents used by the TCPF to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to linens, uniforms and any other textiles processed.
  • Assists with the test piece program by delivering the test piece to the washman after each load processed.
  • Understands Infection Control measures are to be maintained between soiled side operations and clean textiles, and uses proper aseptic techniques including proper hand hygiene.
  • Operates the lift and rail system to correctly direct the proper linen pulled from washer/extractors to appropriate rail storage, to be dried or ironed.
  • Responsible for correct operations of the dryers, small washer, pneumatic lift system, garment finisher and timely delivery of finished textiles when required.
  • Operates side equipment, including garment finisher, small washer, large and small dryers, spreader/feeder/ironer/folder, stacker conveyor, small and large piece folders, and how to operate the light table.
  • Read and understand written direction, to be able to carry out VA policies and procedures as they are related to the job.
  • Inspectors and packages for all Operating and Sterile Procedure linen.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 07:00 am -3:30 pm. Subject to change based on the need of the agency.
Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD04521A
Physical Requirements: Incumbent must have stamina and dexterity of body to stand and/or walk continuously on hard surfaced floors. Incumbent is continually bending and reaching when preforming duties. Incumbent will be exposed to repetitive motion of arms, wrist, and hands, and is required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulations, reaching outward and above the shoulder. Speed will be required in hand and arm movements to meet production standards. Considerable stooping, bending, and lifting of linen and bags that may exceed 50 pounds will be required. Must be able to wear PPE for extended periods of time, as dictated by the work setting. Must be able to load and unload 100-600 pounds washers. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicle, electrical equipment and must exert physical effort to load, unload and transport by pushing and pulling clean and soiled linen carts weighting up to 700 pounds, in controlled manner in ad out of laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various location within the TCPF, CAVHS and other location.
