Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • An ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • A minimum of three years experience teaching Spanish or Portuguese
  • Knowledge of Universal Design and DEI principles
  • Superior proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Strong attention to detail
  • BA/BS in relevant field and 3 or more years of related professional experience or related M.A with proven ability to do the job
  • Advanced knowledge of technological tools used in language teaching (e.g., Zoom, blogs, Kaltura, podcasts, media captioning, Google Suite, Flip, interactive/collaborative games, native speaker exchanges, presentation software)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with multiple courses in the Spanish and Portuguese language programs
  • Ph.D. in Spanish or Portuguese Studies (or a related field)
  • Experience teaching Spanish or Portuguese at the university level
  • Expertise in online and hybrid teaching and online curriculum development
  • Familiarity with accessibility issues in online and hybrid learning environments
  • Proficiency in both Spanish and Portuguese

The Department of Spanish & Portuguese Studies invites applications for a full-time, 12-month appointment as a Language Program and Remote Instruction Coordinator. Salary is $55,000-60,000. Application review will begin on Monday, January 30, 2023.
Coordination of Remote/Online Courses (25%)

  • In consultation with course supervisors and the Director of Language Programs, create, adapt, and update course materials and assessments to maintain alignment with in-person classes
  • Set up and maintain online materials that accompany textbooks (i.e., MyLab Spanish) and support the maintenance of multi-section Canvas sites
  • Assist instructors with integration and use of other relevant technologies including, but not limited to, online workbooks and collaboration tools
  • Hold regular check-ins with online/remote instructors
  • Respond to student and instructor concerns
  • Assist remote instructors with the creation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of course sites in Canvas

Instructional Technology Support (20%)

  • Promote equity by identifying and removing barriers in technological course components
  • Identify instructors’ technology needs
  • Provide support to instructors (both online and in-person) with the integration and use of technologies, including Canvas/Learning Management Systems
  • Ensure accessibility of materials to enhance the student learning experience
  • Assist in training new instructors and graduate instructors on technology tools
  • Research and evaluate available technology resources and tools. Develop or oversee the development of instructional materials using the selected technology

Language Program Administrative Support (30%)

  • Assist in the scheduling of meetings, makeup exams, teaching-related duties, etc.
  • Assist with the annual review of instructors
  • Review and edit exams
  • Resolve student complaints/issues
  • Assist in planning and conducting Orientation / Welcome Week
  • Other projects as assigned
  • Verify textbook orders and communicate with textbook publishers/representatives

Teaching (25%)

  • Teach 2 courses per year depending on department needs and area of expertise
