Job Description

McAdams is seeking an energetic planning professional to join our Planning + Design team as a Planner / Land Planner in North Carolina (Winston-Salem office). Working in a collaborative team environment, this person will be responsible for helping grow our planning + design practice in the Triad.


Position Purpose


To collaborate with the Planning and Design team as well as other market sectors and services within the firm to guide and produce high quality designs, due diligence reports, graphics, and materials related to various projects across multiple markets. To provide support to design team, coordinate and prepare conceptual design, advanced plans, construction documents, and other efforts for a wide variety of projects, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, public, institutional, and healthcare.


Candidates will be asked to provide work samples / portfolio electronically when submitting their resume.


Essential Functions + Responsibilities


  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Lead and review the completion of data analysis, narratives, conceptual design, due diligence research, site analysis, GIS mapping, master planning and other planning tasks;
  • Work with design team to lead and develop concept sketches, site designs, land plans and detailed design for a wide variety of project types, including: Due diligence research, site analysis, GIS mapping, master planning, preparation of planning documents, landscape architecture designs, and preparation of graphics and charts.
  • Lead dynamic teams of planners, designers and other professionals as a project manager and maintain the key point of contact with clients;
  • Work with the planning and design team to lead the delivery of high quality short and long-term planning documents;
  • Deliver presentations to elected officials, advisory boards, stakeholders and the public;


Qualifications


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills
  • Be committed to team success as well as personal career growth
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interest in design of the built environment and placemaking for different land uses
  • General knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Suite software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning or related field from an accredited program
  • Ability to work within a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with project team and manager
  • 4-8 years of land planning and or landscape architecture experience


Preferences


  • Working towards obtaining AICP or RLA licensure
  • Experience in the development of project planning documents and or construction documents.
