Grounds Worker

Essential Functions

The Gardening Grounds Worker assists the Gardening Specialist in maintaining neat, clean, and beautiful grounds by performing landscaping duties, which include the seven core gardening tasks:

• Check and repair sprinklers
• Snow removal is required
• Weed and cultivate
• Clean up
• Train, mentor, and supervise a student crew which performs the same duties
• Pick up litter
• Weed whip, edge, and mow

Qualifications:

1. Required

• Efficient operation of snowplows and tractors
• Ability to work in a professional manner with the public and other departments for special events
• 1 year of landscape and supervisory experience
• Instructional, training and communication skills
• Efficient operation of various small engines and machines
• Knowledge and experience in sprinkler repair
• Efficient use of hand tools

2. Preferred

• 3+ years of full-time landscape and supervisory experience
• Knowledge of growing cycles and pruning procedures of plants helpful
• Knowledge of plant pests and diseases helpful

Additional Qualifications:

Driving a University Vehicle, Physical Exam Required

Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
Physical Exam Required: Y
Physical Exam Details: Lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, shoveling, levelling 6-8 hours Daily Gloves, closed-toe shoes Snow removal duties As needed Seasonally Hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, sunscreen. Forklift, skidsteer, trackhoe, loader, 2-4 hours As needed Hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, gloves
