Summary of Job Duties:
The Anatomic Pathology department is seeking a motivated individual to join our team! Are you looking for an exciting career in a hospital setting that explores human anatomy daily? Our team works closely with Pathology residents and Pathologists to aid in tissue processing in the lab. We handle specimens as tiny as a mustard seed to full size limbs! This position is also responsible for ensuring correct documentation for patients entering and leaving our morgue along with basic assistance with post mortem examinations. If these things excite you, this job is for you!
Qualifications:

• Associates degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology degree or 60 credit hours obtained from an accredited institution that must include 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses which include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.
• Must be able to work on occasional weekends and rotate on-call duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

• EPIC training.
• Professional License/Certification (Certified by ASCP or equivalent).
• One (1) year experience as a grossing tech or assistant.
• Experience in a hospital setting.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:

• May perform other duties as assigned.
• Assists with UAMS/ACH post-mortem examinations by entering data into epic a needed, preparing patient for funeral home and ensuring morgue is cleaned once exam is complete.
• Responsible for dictating gross descriptions of GI, GYN, prostate, kidney, liver, bone marrows, as well as surgical devices.
• Receives and releases bodies in the morgue to ARORA, Coroner’s office, Crime lab, and funeral homes, assuring all paperwork is complete and correct.
• Performs preventative maintenance on machines and equipment.
• Performs troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
• Recording refrigerator, freezer, ambient, cryostat, and bone decalcification station temperatures in appropriate log book.
• Maintaining a positive attitude and correctly performs all duties during strenuous work hours.
• Prints appropriate colored and types of cassettes for all specimen.
• Accession all specimen received indicated for Surgical Pathology.
• Assesses specimen and order acceptability according to departmental policies and procedures.
• Responsible for receiving after-hour specimen in the Clinical Lab refrigerator.
• Trains new employees and residents as needed.
• Alerts appropriate residents and pathologists for special protocols.
• Restocks supplies and maintains a safe and organized work environment.
• Ensures all cassettes are added to Histology processors with appropriate date and end time.
• Store grossed specimen in storage room according to date and dumping specimen after 30 days.
• Label specimen correctly and adding formalin to all specimen that do not require special attention.
• Daily cleaning of cryostats with appropriate reagents.
• Inks and cuts breasts in accordance to appropriate breast protocols.
• Performs computer functions as required.
• Performs and assists with specimen and frozen section preparation.
