Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for the Public Health Research Institute within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory Assistant conducts research in the field of the role of innate immunity in viral transmission and pathogenesis in Dr. Theresa L. Chang’s laboratory.
Among the key duties of this position are the following;
  • Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations in a weekly group meeting.
  • Examines the role of hormones, innate immunity, and microbiome in viral transmission and pathogenesis in humans and mouse models.
  • Carries out assignments in the laboratory and helps manage the laboratory.
  • Assists in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications for the funding of research activities.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Experience in processing primary cells from blood and tissue as well as handling mice.
  • Experience in molecular biology, cell biology, innate immunity and host-pathogen interaction.
  • One (1) year of prior laboratory experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiar with handling infectious agents, ELISA , multi-color FACS analysis, molecular cloning, real-time PCR analysis, and immunofluorescent microscopy.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of infectious diseases, immunology, molecular cellular biology.
