Job Description

Basic Function:

Carry out all related activities of the continuous testing and disposition of ingredients and finished products with impartiality and confidentiality of the results generated.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Evaluate ingredients and products via visual inspection or by measuring weight, density, etc. in order to determine physical properties of samples and compliance with standards.
2. Perform chemical analyses using instrumental methods in order to determine the composition of samples.
3. Prepare samples for ingredients, intermediate or finished products, or other materials in order to perform analyses (e.g., chemical, physical, sensory, microbiological).
4. Interpret data from routine and non-routine analyses in order to validate those ingredients/materials meet specifications and approve for use or shipment. Generate QN when ingredients/materials do not meet specifications.
5. Record data from analyses or experiments in a computer, log book or laboratory notebook.
6. Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation (e.g., troubleshooting, calibrating/verification, and repairing).
7. Conduct inspection of the laboratory or laboratory procedures to ensure conformance to internal (e.g., The Coca-Cola Quality System) or external certification requirements.
8. Dispose of expired chemicals according to schedules and expiration dates in order to keep laboratory area clean and safe.
9. Develop or validate laboratory test methods or equipment (sampling, monitoring, analytical procedures) in order to ensure reliability and accuracy of analytical results. This may include performing capability studies.
10. Perform data audit in order to ensure accuracy of data and analytical processes. This may include statistical process control or correlation study.
11. Organize workflow and task schedules to maximize laboratory efficiency (e.g., prioritize sample analysis, assign tasks, preventative maintenance).
12. Prepare standards or standard curves to perform quantitative analyses.
13. Participate in finding solutions for distressed and problem batches in order to minimize losses.
14. Process incoming or outgoing samples (e.g., receiving, logging, labeling, shipping) using tools to ensure that samples are traceable and properly distributed for analysis.
15. Collaborate with continuous improvement efforts of laboratory processes and key measures including quality and service.
16. Participate in investigations and perform root cause analysis to external and internal complaints and deviations.
17. Ensure proper handling of nonconforming material by placing the required status labels to materials on inventory and coordinating their segregation according to company procedures.
18. Participate and promote activities with the OE Team that contribute toward continuous improvement (5’s, workplace audit, T Cards, Idea Cards, Big C, Tip Plan, Communication Center, etc.).

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree in Natural Science (Major Chemistry, Biology, Food Science Chemical Engineering, Microbiology)
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish)
  • Experience: Two to three years experience in QA laboratory field.
