Overview

Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the School of Arts and Sciences.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:


  • Oversees day-to-day lab operations including participant recruitment, designing, running, and analyzing surveys, laboratory experiments, and virtual reality experiments and other data-management activities (including the management of OSF spaces and creation of executive reports and summaries).
  • Maintains IRB protocols, website updates, and assisting in planning lab events and trainings and managing research-related social media platforms.
  • Coordinates, trains, and works with motivated undergraduate research assistants from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience.
  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s).
  • One year of research study experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
  • Two years driving experience and successful completion of the Rutgers’ Defensive Driving Course.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Qualtrics, and SPSS , strong communication skills, and strong organizational, written, verbal, and computer literacy skills.
  • Practical understanding and a working knowledge of basic scientific techniques.
  • Participate in required occupational health and safety programs.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some coding skills (e.g., python, C#, Java, experience with Unity/Unreal platforms, and/or the willingness to learn).
  • B.A./B.S. in psychology or related field and experience in an experimental social psychology lab (or related experience).
