Job Details:
Responsibilities:
The Lab Microbiologist will be responsible for performing a variety of analytical microbiological or quality system procedures in a Food Safety Laboratory. This includes demonstrating precision and accuracy in performing work instructions and data collection with at least 75% proficiency. The individual will also need to demonstrate proficiency using the LIMS system and will be responsible for maintaining ISO records for process control. Other responsibilities include:
  • Complying with quality system and safety requirements
  • Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Assisting in the planning, development, modification, validation, and evaluation of new or existing testing applications and test results
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Cross-training and being capable of substituting for absent team members in specific areas
  • Performing complex work instructions and operating sophisticated equipment independently
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent and LabWare LIMS database applications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Prefer college-level courses or a degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, and/or Physical Sciences
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to perform complex work instructions and operate sophisticated equipment without close supervision
  • Ability to work independently and resolve routine problems
  • Experience in food microbiology or laboratory working with Petrifilm, PCR, and ELFA
  • Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills
Training Programs: The training needs for this job classification have been assessed by the appropriate management team member and are listed in the LIMS Training Manager. The amount and level of training required are dependent on the level of responsibility authorized to team members assigned to this job classification. Aside from the minimum required training programs may vary from team member to team member.
Managerial Duties: No other management duties are associated with this job classification unless specifically authorized by the appropriate management team member responsible for team members assigned to this job classification.
