SUMMARY

Under general supervision, produces and hosts daily radio show, writes, produces, and curates KBEM news and public affairs content and programming.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Creates and hosts a daily morning show for KBEM radio and digital platforms.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
  • Gathers and edits school news from students and school sites; mentors student interns.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope of authority and training.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Responds to listener inquiries about music via phone, email, and social media.
  • Hosts or emcee’s KBEM-related functions and events as needed.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
  • Selects and records Public Service Announcements and maintains accurate records for FCC reporting.
  • Interviews and records news-makers, artists, musicians, authors, and others for broadcasts.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Associate’s Degree in Broadcast Technology, Communications or related field; AND 2 (2) years of radio broadcasting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.


Knowledge of:

  • Correct English grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • FCC guidelines, rules, and regulations governing telecommunications operations.
  • Current legislative, political, and economic trends in broadcast engineering and radio operations.
  • Local community resources and regional community services programs.
  • Methods and techniques used in the development and production of radio marketing projects.
  • Professional journalistic methods, including research, development and presentation.


Skill in:

  • Writing, editing and developing a variety of communications materials.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • Teaching, mentoring and supervising high school students.
  • Operating complete spectrum of broadcast equipment, including tape recorders, audio missing board, digital editing machine, compact disc players, turn tables, and audio cartridges.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard office software.


Bargaining Unit:
AFSCME l Grade: A14 l Salary Range*: From $25.02 - $31.49 per hour l FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

  • The salary range is provided by the collective bargaining agreement associated with this position. Actual pay will be based on selected candidates’ experience.


LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office and radio station environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
