We are currently seeking a self-starting Junior Scientist to join our Genetic Engineering Team. This position is a research focused role and you will play a crucial role in providing hands-on collaboration with other scientists to design gene-editing strategies and executing projects to further the advancement of our products. Your knowledge, skills, and innovative ideas will shape the direction of our mission to produce guilt-free cotton. Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimize protocols for stable transformation and transient techniques within cotton plant cells and use our current cotton cell lines to perform plant transformation experiments.
• Recognize when processes need SOP development and formalization and facilitate that process
• Apply basic statistical methods to investigate and answer research questions using experimental data and prepare reports of experiments for Benchling.
• Utilize molecular biology techniques tailored for plant cells, such as vector and primer design, cloning, RNA and DNA extraction, qPCR, vector design, and microscope visualization, to support genetic engineering initiatives.
• Independently execute genetic engineering projects, specifically focusing on in vitro cotton and plant biotechnology.

Qualifications:

• Experience in plant transformation and plant cell culture using sterile techniques
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges
• Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and a positive attitude in overcoming challenges
• Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams, value differences, and embrace collaboration
• Experience executing molecular biology techniques in plant cells like DNA extraction, RNA extraction, cloning, PCR, qPCR, western blots, etc.
• Bachelor's or Master's in biology, biotechnology, agricultural engineering, plant science or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience in gene-editing using CRISPR
• Experience in confocal microscopy
• Background in plant cell biology
• Experience doing cotton transformation
• Experience designing Golden-Gate cloning experiments
