Job Summary


FilterEasy is looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to participate in and contribute to the new product development process from initial concept and proof of concept testing through final design, quality specifications, and manufacturing ramp-up. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about User-Centric Design, precise, detail-oriented, and also capable of creative thinking and problem solving and be able to just find ways to make it happen


Responsibilities and Duties


  • Ability to work cross functionally with many different types of individuals and departments
  • Review prior art patents and create summary documents
  • Participate in value analysis, cost analysis, and quality improvement efforts
  • Ensuring standards of product quality, performance, and reliability met
  • Involved with engineering, design, development, and implementation of critical components
  • Research and benchmark competitive products
  • Set-up, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment and sensor packages
  • Search out new and improved technologies, materials, and processes that create performance advantages
  • Work with external suppliers on identifying potential materials and parts for evaluation
  • Balancing needs of multiple stakeholders into a single, clever design with a great user experience
  • Collaborate extensively with others during the design and development process
  • Analyze test results and issue written reports with results, analysis, and recommendations to non-technical team members
  • Design and building prototypes for demonstrations and for testing
  • Operate 3D CAD for design of products, fixtures and concept illustration
  • Ability to transfer new product ideas into reality while keeping in mind the production of smart designs, great user experience, and next generation products and user interfaces that will be easily adopted by consumers
  • Perform various laboratory tests with an analytical and inquisitive state of mind
  • Bring creativity, vision, and a different point of view to the team in order to provide unique and exciting solutions to overcome roadblocks
  • Create, follow, and modify test protocols
  • Apply engineering practices to provide design solutions based on test and theory


Basic Qualifications


  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of common prototyping methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop relationships and engage with people quickly
  • Appreciates User-Centric Design, even when at the expense of technical performance and specs
  • A builder and a creator
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline
  • Not afraid to take risks and challenge the status quo
  • Demonstrated passion for new product development within a collaborative environment
  • At least 2 years of experience or educational equivalent
  • Hands-on experience in a mechanical or fluids-oriented testing lab
  • Honest, a little scrappy, and bias toward action
  • Familiarity with common laboratory instrumentation
  • Knowledge of common manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD, either Solidworks or PTC Creo
  • Provide written technical specifications in a clear and unambiguous fashion
